HELLO!

The BakeHouse is a family run Boutique Cake Cafe, nestled in The Wynd, the prettiest corner of Letchworth Garden City. Owned and run by husband & wife team, Andy & Jem McLean, you'll rarely see the place without us here, along with our three children who work alongside our fantastic team.

We specialise in cakes and puddings, savoury and sweet scones, sausage rolls, just to name a few, all served alongside an expertly made menu of drinks and milkshakes, in a homely, modern and vibrant setting. Everything here is baked by hand, on the premises, using recipes we have perfected over many years. Our repertoire is constantly growing though, you never know what you'll find on the counter here! We love what we do, and this comes through in the quality of our bakes and warm and welcoming atmosphere we strive to create at The BakeHouse.

Starting from our small home kitchen, Jem started baking and creating over 15 years ago whilst running around after our three children. We took the next step in November 2018 when we opened our little shop at no.19, The Cakey Lady HQ, where the business quickly grew and we baked more than we ever imagined!

​

In January 2020, what was originally our 5 year plan, became our 2 year plan. We decided to take on a bigger shop just a few doors away. Offering home delivery throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, which was a crazy time for us, Andy managed to come on board and work alongside Jem full time, and our dreams became reality.

​

In February 2021 we moved in to our beautiful new premises, and gradually and carefully started to open up for our amazing customers to return and enjoy a little bit of baked goodness. We are now fully open, with seating upstairs in our Sitting Room, downstairs lounging to watch the world go by, plus tables and chairs outside for you to enjoy the bustle of The Wynd.
